Tea :
The tea small holders play a significant role in the annual production of the Company since they contribute over 80%, by way of supplying their green leaf to the factories. All our estates produce low grown type of tea which enjoy a premium price over the other elevations such as high and medium growns. The low grown type of tea are well known for the appearance, cleanliness and liquoring characteristics. Russia and Middle East countries are the major importers of this segment of teas.

The existing 09 tea factories has a capacity of manufacturing 60,000 – 70,000 Kgs of green leaf per day.

These factories could cater to the small holders to supply their daily green leaf production and enjoy an attractive income for their sustainability as well as for the future development of the Company.

Despite a stiff competition from 167 privately owned Tea factories in Galle & Matara district, our Tea factories continued to attract  a large volume of green leaf from Tea small holders by paying a competitive rate for the raw material and also providing a personalized extension service.

The estates experience two heavy cropping seasons in a year namely April-June and October-December, which are considered as the two major monsoon periods of this country. It is envisaged that 1,000 Ha. of high yielding VP tea to be cultivated within the next 05 years.
